Style File Friday: Blooming Butterflies

I become completely distracted, hold my breath and can't keep from staring...when a monarch flutters by.  It started at a young age, growing up on 20 acres of land in Northern WI I would chase them, not wanting the beauty to leave my sight.  I can stop myself from chasing (just imagine a grown woman running frantically through the city streets looking up at the sky) but I hope with time they don't lose their remaining magical effects on me.

Through August 8th you can see an inordinate number of butterflies at Olbrich Botanical Gardens.  Chasing them is probably off limits but staring and learning interesting tid bits is greatly encouraged.  For more information visit the Olbrich Botanical Garden's events page.

Blooming Butterflies Outfit

While the perfect butterfly watching outfit does have ample space for running, running is not a necessity.  This long tube dress flatters many figures and is especially versatile. The necklace can be worn 5-ways, just ask us how.

Tube Dress: $38
5-way Necklace: $35
This outfit is available in purple, navy or black at the Verona store or at the Madison store by request.

Style File Friday: Community Gardens Bike Tour

Dreaming of getting outside? Exploring the neighborhoods? Eating local? Meeting new people?  This weekend's Community Gardens Bike Tour promises you will do exactly that.  Enjoy biking around the city with Mayor Dave Cieslewicz, discovering the local gardens.  Maybe you will find inspiration for your garden.

Community Gardens Bike Tour Outfit

I know.  A dress on a bike?  Yes!  A pair of  little sport shorts will hide perfectly underneath, making a dress ideal for riding a bike in style.  Plus there is no chance of an embarrassing flashing.  In place of jewelry I've added a scarf.  It's shown here tied around the neck or tie it around your head to keep your hair in place (but your mom would prefer if you wore your helmet).  Few things beat the sight of a floral scarf flowing cheerfully behind a bike.  The best part about this outfit is no one would have guessed that you arrive by bike because you'll look so fashionable!  The dress is available at the Madison store in blue and grey and at the Verona store in purple.

Bubble Tank Dress: $28
Scarf: $19
Basic Tank: $15

Style File Friday: Art Fair on (and off) the Square

With a plethora of events happening this weekend it was difficult to choose just one.  So I cheated a little and picked two, please don't tell.  I think my event luck will be diffferent when winter rolls back in (sheesh- Winter? What winter?).   All I'm saying is at some point I might be making up these events, that's all.  Until then let's get your art on!

Art Fair on (off) the Square is this weekend!  I wait all year for this and one of these times I'll acutally come home with something.  Paintings, mixed media, beyond believeable photographs, textiles (my favorite), ceramics, the list goes on.  You simply can't beat having all of these beautiful things right on the sqaure, especially when the weather is lovely (as it will be).  I sincerely say, enjoy.

FYI: You can still get your weekly veggies ( make your Mom happy and eat your greens) as the Dane County Farmer's Market on the Square is moved to Wilson St @ MLK Jr. BLVD to make room for the artists.

Birthday Shirts

More of the ever popular kid's birthday shirts are in the works!  With any luck I'll have a few finished up today and ready for tomorrow.

Just in case you don't know what in the world I am talking about:
Our birthday shirts are tees for wee ones with a number on the front (their age) proudly displayed for the world to see.  Each one is handmade right here at the Purple Goose by yours truly.

Special note on these colors: This is our last batch with these tee colors.  With the sale and  summer vacations quickly approaching I don't know when I'll get a chance to make more.  So, when these are gone they may be gone for awhile (not forever)- just an fyi.

Now get off the internet and enjoy the wonderful day we are having!

Style File Friday: Rhythm and Booms

If you are in Madison for the weekend of the 4th of July chances are you will be enjoying Rhythm and Booms, the Midwest's largest fireworks display and probably eating en plein air.  Well, so will I and 150 of my friends and family.  It's really a belated wedding reception as my husband and I were married in December, not exactly the best time of year for a bbq in Wisconsin.

Instead of the traditional red, white and blue garb I've chosen a white with patchwork tube dress/top.  It's ideal for being cool in the sunny heat of Saturday.  You'll be comfortable yet stylish without being over the top.  Oh, and if you want to accessorize with Red or blue that will look fantastic too!

Visit http://rhythmandbooms.com for more info about the show.

Dress: $48
5-way necklace: $35 (exclusively at the Purple Goose and locally made!)
Stop in the Madison store to see it in person.

Have a fun (and safe) Independence Day!
